Position Details

Wesleyan University has approximately 2,900 undergraduate and 100 graduate students. The office of Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) operates on a weekday schedule of 8:30 AM – 4:30 PM with limited evening appointments, as well as 24/7 clinician access through an on-call rotation.

Outreach is included in the services provided and is essential to the community health model to which CAPS adheres. CAPS provides education, consultation, and training to students, faculty, and staff.

Reporting to the director of CAPS, the psychotherapist will provide individual and group psychotherapy for students presenting with a wide range of emotional concerns.

Responsibilities include:

Provide individual and group psychotherapy for students with a wide range of mental health concerns, as well as consultation to students, administrators, faculty, and staff.

Conduct outreach, education, and prevention work with the larger Wesleyan community.

Provide education, outreach, and training services to student groups, faculty, and administrators (deans, residence life, public safety, etc.).

Work with student groups (and others)helping to effectively develop programs of interest.

Provide supervision to trainees.

Maintain clinical case files in accordance with legal, ethical, and professional standards.

Complete special projects and other duties as assigned.

Work one evening per week to meet the limited evening availability CAPS offers.

This position works full time (37.5 hours per week) for 43 weeks during the calendar year and is off during summers.

Minimum Qualifications

Licensed Clinical or Counseling Psychologist in CT, Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) in CT, or Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in CT, or eligible for immediate licensure in CT.

At least two years of professional clinical experience with a late adolescent/emerging adult population.

Demonstrated experience working with clients who present with an array of psychiatric issues.

Experience and comfort working with clients from diverse backgrounds.

Demonstrated commitment to work within a diverse environment and interact openly with individuals of different backgrounds.

Demonstrated excellent oral and written skills.

Preferred Qualifications

PhD or PsyD in clinical or counseling psychology or Masters degree in Clinical Social Work.

Experience working with clients from traditionally marginalized communities.

Experience working in a university counseling setting.
