Position Details

The Office of Admission at Wesleyan University serves as the hub of activity and point of first contact for the university for thousands of prospective students and families. The admissions team is responsible for generating, processing and reviewing over 12,000 first-year and transfer applications per year and hosts over 15,000 individual visitors on campus annually while promoting the university virtually and hosting events all over the world.

The assistant dean reports to an associate dean of admission and participates in Wesleyan undergraduate recruitment and selection programs by working closely with faculty, staff, current students and alumni.

A range of responsibilities include:

Travel for recruitment, including visiting schools, organizing and hosting events, interviewing candidates and meeting alumni.

Participate as full voting member of the Wesleyan admission committee.

Represent the university to students, parents, high school guidance counselors and alumni.

Considerable work with current students and faculty.

Assist in management of admission programs to include but not limited to admission volunteers, tour guides, and yield activities.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree and at least one year direct or related experience in higher education or secondary school setting.

Experience may include admission office work or volunteer experience while a student.

Excellent communication skills, written and verbal.

Demonstrated sensitivity to and empathy for people from different backgrounds is essential.

Experience working with people from diverse backgrounds.

Demonstrated ability to work on multiple projects effectively and simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.

Strong personal presence.

Valid driver’s license.

Preferred Qualifications

Liberal Arts degree and two or more years direct or related experience in higher education or secondary school setting.

Close identification with and understanding of the aims and benefits of a Wesleyan education.

Quantitative skills and analytic orientation.

Fluency in a second language.
