Position Details

The Wesleyan Cinema Archives provides a home for the University’s growing collections related to motion picture and television history. Committed to the care and preservation of paper materials, photographs, and memorabilia, the Archive is a connoisseur’s collection of artists whose careers reflect unique aspects of cinema.

Reporting to the Curator of the Wesleyan Cinema Archives the Curatorial and Programming Assistant works closely with the Curator, and other staff to support work and projects related to curating, archives, prints, events, and programming and involves significant evening and weekend work.

Primary responsibility in each of the areas include:

Manage and inventory Archival format films

Organize archival materials for classroom use

Facilitate and monitor on site archive researchers

Prepare and inventory archival materials for cataloging

Assist with preparing and mounting gallery exhibitions

Assist with archive presentations for students and visitors

Maintain records of student and researchers for use of archival materials


Manage and maintain C-Film/Archive electronic display

Assist with Film series poster design and promotion

Create video announcements of upcoming film screenings

Assist with weekend workshops and summer film series

Provide technical support for film-related special events
Film Prints and Projection

Assist with the preparation of 16 mm, 35mm, and 70mm films for projection

Assist with the standard maintenance of film projection booths and equipment

Conduct regular inspection of screening rooms, including stocking supplies

Assist in projection of 16 mm films as needed

Train student projectionist

Maintain knowledge of technical equipment and maintenance vendors, and handle correspondence on minor repair issues

Assist in trouble-shooting during classroom and event screenings

Ingestion of Digital Cinema Package (DCP) films into server

Willingness to be assigned classroom projection – flexibility throughout the academic year is necessary

Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

Associate degree and at least one year experience in a support role. May include student experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Demonstrated interest and knowledge of film, curating, archival or related work.

Demonstrated ability to set priorities, work effectively under pressure and follow through with details.

Excellent organizational skills

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Proficiency in MS Word, MS Excel, electronic, outlook and web page management.

Ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends.

Demonstrated commitment to work within a diverse environment and interact openly with individuals of different backgrounds.

Preferred Qualifications

Prior experience working in higher ed

Prior experience with film or other A/V equipment
