Position Details

The Center for Prison Education (CPE) brings the liberal arts into Connecticut’s prisons, offering incarcerated individuals the opportunity to take Wesleyan and Middlesex Community College courses and to apply their credits towards an Associate’s degree from Middlesex.

Reporting to the Center for Prison Education Academic Development and Planning Manager, the CPE Program Coordinator supports various aspects of the college program at Cheshire and York Correctional Institutions, with a primary focus on work supporting partnership with the Department of Corrections and Middlesex Community College.

Primary responsibilities include:

Analyze current workflow and develop systems that maximize efficiency in tracking, storing, and communicating with Middlesex all pertinent Center for Prison Education data and academic information, including information related to course enrollment, course history, grades, transcripts, course syllabi, transfer credits, and faculty appointment.

Design and manage systems for acquiring all educational materials needed by CPE students.

Design and mange practices for written communication with CPE students, including general announcements, course-specific announcements, and grades.

Strategize to continually strengthen the relationship with Department of Corrections by developing systems as needed and resolving challenges as they arise; act as liaison with the Department of Corrections to coordinate necessary processes, orientation, and documentation for faculty and students to work in the prison setting.

Support the partnership with Middlesex Community College by assisting with all necessary admission processes and documentation including, where needed, Middlesex Community College application, financial aid paperwork, and FERPA waivers.

Oversee key components undergraduate volunteer engagement.

Coordinate other data management processes and perform additional administrative duties as needed.

This is a grant funded position. Continuation of the position is contingent upon continued funding.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree with at least 1 year experience in project management or project coordination or an equivalent combination of education training and experience.

Strong technical, analytical and problem solving skills.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Exceptional ability to pay attention to details

Strong organizational and time management skills.

Demonstrated ability to work on multiple projects effectively and simultaneously in a fast-paced environment,

Expertise with MS Word, Excel and Outlook

Driver’s license and reliable transportation to get to facilities.

Demonstrated commitment to work within a diverse environment and interact openly with individuals of different backgrounds.

Ability to work a flexible schedule including occasional evening and weekends.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with data management processes and systems

Experience working with correctional facilities.

Experience working in an educational setting.

Experience working with underserved populations
